How to play
You start with one real reading: the high on today's date in a past year, at a mystery U.S. city — and how far it ran above or below normal. Something happened that day.
Tap the map to guess — it locks onto the nearest city, and you confirm. Zoom with a scroll, pinch, or the buttons, or type a city name instead. Each guess shows how far off you were, in which direction, and what that city's high was on the same date. Each miss reveals another clue: the overnight low, precipitation, then the region, the state, and the first letter. Within 50 miles counts.
Every number is a real NOAA observation — 139 million of them across 55 years. The answer links to that city's full history back to 1970.
